New Riddles...Same Old Answer

Over the years I have read the same mistake over and over again.

The author of the "Dead Sea Scrolls Deception" tells us that the Apostle Paul was trying to come up with a "new" religion...that he highjacked the real Christian message and came up with "silly" stuff like Jesus being the God/man.

Now we hear the same drums being pounded out in the DaVinci Code.

Dan Brown tells us that Constantine is the one who came up with the "new" religion...burning all the "real" gospels...getting rid of the real message of Jesus.

And what is the real message again?

Oh yeah...that Jesus was merely human...that He wasn't God and man.

Brown can't even get right what the existing Gospels say about Jesus.

He says Constantines new gospels [the ones we have today] tell of Christ's Divinity and the "real" gospels, that he omitted from the Bible, spoke of His human traits.

One only has to read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to see that Brown has been sleeping at the wheel.

All the Gospels say that Jesus is God and man...they don't take away from His humanity...that is what the Incarnation is all about.

Jesus is fully God and fully human.

How can we tell which Gospels really belong?

Let's go back to earlier revelation.

In the Old Testament, one of the tests for a prophet was that he didn't contradict earlier revelations from God.

Will the real Jesus please stand up.

Isa 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel [God with us].

Isa 9:6 "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace"

Jesus Christ is the God/man!

Satan will continue to pour out his lies against the Lord and against His Church.

Those who love the lie will continue to follow his drum beat.

I haven't read the Da Vinci Code or anything else by Dan Brown, so I can't comment on what he said, but your attacks seem to be made on weak points.

The Gospels (with the exception of John) do not assert that Jesus was both God and Man, and certainly not as defined by the early church councils dominated by Constantine. The Jesus they describe was a human, albeit one with a special relationship with God.

To bring in the Old Testament prophets as proofs for your ideas about Jesus is putting the cart before the horse. The Gospel writers employed OT allusions to appeal to their readers and illustrate what they believed about Jesus. In fact, the Isa 7:14 quote is notorious because the error in the Septuagint Greek is responsible for the idea that Jesus was born of a virgin. The original Hebrew word only means a young woman. One of the key doctrines of Christianity is based primarily on bad scholarship.

Which gospels are "real"? None are real if by real you mean historically accurate. All are real if you mean that they reflect the beliefs of early communities that formed among followers of Jesus. Why not read them all and see how they agree and differ?

The Gospel of Matthew begins with Jesus' genealogy [human]...then tells of His supernatural conception [Holy Spirit/virgin Mary]...then it says His name will be called "God with us".

The Gospel of Mark shows that Jesus is God from Ps 110 [Mark 12:36].

In the Gospel of Luke it says "who can forgive sins but God alone"...this was a response to Jesus forgiving a man his sins...Jesus enemies knew what Jesus was saying.

There is obviously no way the writer of Matthew could have known Jesus' genealogy. It is not a genealogy it is a mythology, like the stories of the virgin birth, angels appearing, star in the east, etc.,etc.

The Bible cannot act as proof of itself. The fact that something in one book sounds like something in another is not proof that either book is accurate, merely that they are telling similar stories.

Is there no way, DL?

Absolutely no way?

Are you giving a universal negative here?

Are you all knowing, all seeing?

God revealed to Matthew, via the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit [the Author of the Scriptures] what Jesus geneology was.

Of course, I should have thought of that - supernatural dictation! That explains everything! I'll bet that every word in the bible was dictated by God supernaturally and written down exactly by the writers indicated by the texts. I'll further bet that every hand copied and hand-translated version of all those texts was dictated supernaturally by God and that God told those catholic bishops exactly which books to put in the canon, etc.

This explanation ranks up there with the tooth fairy and Santa's workshop at the North Pole.
