Sister Wives...Really Weird and Kinky...Why So?

Let me begin by saying I do not support bigamy...it goes against the foundational beliefs I hold to as dear.

As a Christian I have a worldview that believes in absolute morals...these morals are universal and absolute because they are the unchanging character of the God who created us and Who continues to uphold and govern us.

From the Christian worldview marriage is not just some nice tradition...it points to a deeper reality. Marriage points to the relationship of Jesus Christ [Creator God] and His bride [the church].

When mankind rebelled against God, God did not leave us in our sin...He came and pursued us...He was willing to sacrifice His ultimate good...to the point of suffering and death...in order to bring us back to Himself...

All who turn from sin and rebellion...and trust in Jesus...rightfully surrendering their hearts back to Him and enter the solemn covenant with God [Baptized into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit]...are members of Christ church universal, His bride.

Jesus has one bride, there is one church, with many different members throughout the world.

I have one bride...one wife...and by God's grace I will love and cherish Bonita all the days of our lives together...loving no other but her.

I have a very fixed and set view of marriage and sex.

When I see Reality T.V shows like "Sister Wives" I look at their lives and sadly shake my head. As the years go on I want to grow in humility...I do not want to look at their lives and then arrogantly mock them for their folly...I know that the only reason why I believe and practice whatever degree of truth that I do...is only by the grace of God.

But I do look at the practices of bigamy as something that violates God's absolute standards of morality.

God created sex to be good...to be enjoyed...BUT...it is good and to be enjoyed within the limits that He constructed for it. God created sex to be enjoyed within a life long covenant or contract between one man and one woman...a relationship of mutual love, mutual honor, mutual self investment...a relationship of mutual responsibility.

The Bible teaches that sex before marriage is called fornication...and is sin that will be judged by God...and sex with anyone other than your marriage partner is called adultery and is also sin and will be judged by God.

When I look at "Sister Wives" and view it as weird and wrong...I am doing so from a certain standard...a specific platform...

...but what happens when you don't hold to a absolute standard for sex and marriage...what makes "Sister Wives" so wonky then?

Think about it for a second.

You will have women sitting in front of the T.V laughing and shaking their heads at these stupid women who are willing to "share" a man with other women. But what are they shaking their heads at...the sharing of the man part...or the marriage, responsibility and commitment part?

In our culture sex before marriage is practiced by millions of people! This means that thousands of women watching "Sister Wives", laughing at these poor, brainwashed women...are also poor and brainwashed...only in a different wash tub.

I can totally understand that the concept of one man sleeping around with 4 different women as being abnormal...from my Christian worldview...but why is it so abnormal from the worldview that is propagated in our North American culture?

Go out to any given night club and you are going to find hundreds of young studs seeking out their next conquest. And we have a multitude of young women willing to let the young men have them...with absolutely no obligations, no commitments...and no responsibility.

Many people in our culture with go through dozens of relationships in their life times, some longer, others shorter in duration. During these relationships some people will have a monogamous sexual relationship with the person they are with, while in other situations both parties want the "freedom" to "see" [fornicate] with other people.

So again I ask the question...what are people so freaked out about...what do they think is so strange?

It can't be the multiple sex partner thing...because they too have had...or still have multiple sex partners.

Is it the women "sharing" one man...but don't women in our culture share men sexually all the time? If you are going to practice no commitment relationships...then where do you think your guy is on the nights of the week he isn't with you...and another question is...who are you with on those nights?

Maybe people are queered out by the multiple marriages concept...but here is another area in which many people really aren't that different from this reality T.V.

We have many people in our culture in their second, third, fourth marriages...they go through one relationship and then jump into another...why is it they don't have a reality T.V show on that? Because thousands of people are doing that...its not that weird!

Our culture practices some pretty weird traditions of its own...but because "everyone else is also doing it" it doesn't seem all that weird.

Who wants to watch a T.V show that makes fun of your own life?

No one likes to laugh at their own mess.
